The United Way Campaign- Coats for Kids

Posted by Jesse Willms on December 06, 2010

Today I wanted to talk about a new charity I am supporting. Coats for Kids. This campaign began in 1992 by the United Way, after they received numerous requests from families and individuals. We all know that coats and snow suits are very expensive, and we also know that in Edmonton, these coats are a must for children. Therefore, the United Way began asking the community to donate new or gently used coats, where they would be distributed to those who need them most.

In 2009, Coats for Kids received an astonishing 16 000 coats, however this year there is an even higher demand. Approximately 18 000 coats are needed for children this year to get through the harsh Alberta winters, so they need your help!

I know one thing this great organization has asked for, and that is creating awareness and helping to spread the word. This is why I chose to write about this on my blog today. Recently I purchased twenty brand new jackets, with some including snow pants. By supporting Coats for Kids, I am doing my small part for the community. I hope every child gets to enjoy recess with their friends and have fun playing in the snow…even if it is minus 30 degrees Celsius!
